International Reserves of BNM as at 14 May 2005
The international reserves of Bank Negara Malaysia increased further to RM284.4 billion (USD74.8 billion) as at 14 May 2005. The increase of RM4.2 billion (USD1.1 billion) during the first half of May was due mainly to higher repatriation of export earnings and inflows of portfolio investment. Outflows reflected mainly payments for imports of goods and services and repatriation of dividends. The reserves position is adequate to finance 8.7 months of retained imports and is 7.2 times the short-term external debt.
